The project was funded by The Special Initiative on Training and Job Creation of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented among others by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
According to the report,
The population of Ethiopia is expected to grow by 2.6% annually, leading to a working age population (15-64) of 86.8 million people in 2030. With a GDP of USD $94 billion and a population of 109 million in 2020, it has approximately 800,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and 1.2 million jobs; 42,700 jobs possibly from 27,900 social enterprises in 2020 and with more than USD $4.3 billion funding gap.
The report estimates that
There will be approximately 55,600 direct jobs in social enterprises in Ethiopia by 2030, projecting 12,900 could be added between 2020 and 2030.
Give the potential of social enterprises in jobs creation across the continent, the report suggests the financial ecosystem, technical support ecosystem, enabling environment and data availability as the four key areas that need imporvements to realize the aspiration.
